Although Justin Bieber was nominated for Best Pop Solo performance, Best country duo and Best Pop Duo performance, he decided to boycott the grammy’s this year.
Along with the boycott, Justin Bieber publicly called out the recording academy that placed his most recent album in the pop category when he wanted it to be nominated for the RnB category. Justin has shared his admiration for the genre of RnB and he made every melody in a way that would align to fit the genre. This is why he is genuinely surprised as to why it was put in the pop section.
Justin Bieber wasn’t the only one to boycott. Halsey, The Weeknd, Nicki Minaj, Zayn, Drake and many others decided it would be best to go on strike and miss this years Grammys. The Weeknd received no nominations even though his single “ Blinding Lights” has made history by spending a whole year on the top 100 list. Not only did he not go to the Grammys, but he even announced that he will no longer submit his music to get nominated to the Grammy’s either.
Zayn Malik personally sent out anweet about the unfairness of the Grammy’s and how it is rigged. Check it out.. (WARNING: NSFW)
Nicki Minaj also tweeted back in 2020 about a time when the Grammy’s gave an award to someone not nearly deserving as she that year.
Never forget the Grammys didn’t give me my best new artist award when I had 7 songs simultaneously charting on billboard & bigger first week than any female rapper in the last decade- went on to inspire a generation. They gave it to the white man Bon Iver. #PinkFriday
The of complaints goes on, but, no action for change has been made yet.
We wonder if the Grammy’s will ever award people for their music and only that if these accusations are true.
Could this be why the Grammys had the lowest all time viewership for this CBS Speical event, OR do you think it comes down to the fact that the ongoing pandemic has changed the way we watch, stream, or talk about these events...
