You could say this is one of the most anticipated events of the year. The professional boxing match between the British YouTuber Olajide "JJ" Olatunji (known online as KSI) and American YouTuber, Logan Paul took place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA last night Saturday, November 9th.
So what happened and where does this feud even come from?
KSI defeated Logan Paul in a split decision which has caused mixed results across the YouTube and Boxing community. Despite this, they both came out winners in our opinions... Sources close to each of the YouTube stars state that they each made around $900,000 from this singular event.
The hype surrounding this SOLD OUT event is no surprise given these huge names clashing face to face. But where did the idea for these YouTube sensations to fight even come from?
We first start our story back in 2017 where Logan was making headlines… for all the wrong reasons. He hit the mainstream headlines on New Year’s Eve when he uploaded a video to YouTube showing deceased people who had hung themselves in an infamous suicide forest in Japan.
But how does KSI get brought into this? Well simple, like anyone who seems to smart a small and petty issue it all began with some shade towards Logan and his younger YouTuber brother Jake Paul. KSI had defeated YouTuber and former fan Joe Weller at an amatueur boxing event winning the inaugural YouTube Belt. After the event he said:
“Well, mans got this belt right now.. If any YouTuber wants it, you can come get it. Jake Paul, Logan Paul, any of the pauls I don’t care.”
The pauls clapped back claiming they “have never heard of KSI or his younger brother Deji.” however, that didn’t stop either side from throwing back some heated words across social media. Deji’s abuse of Jake made a rivalry in itself. On August 25th the bout was preceded by a press conference which seemed to only escalate and add fuel to the fire between KSI and Logan.
Logan and KSI decided to take to their first fight in LA. With Logan coming out of the gate strong he went on to win the first 2 rounds. KSI shorty caught up to Logan showing his power in the ring. After six rounded the judges final call was a DRAW.
KSI finishes by saying:
“What a fight Logan, I think there’s only one thing to do.. I think we’ve got to have a rematch.”
Although there seems to be a mutual respect between both YouTubers the bitter relationship continued to grow during the build-up to the KSI v LOGAN PAUL “2” match.
After KSI’s win we are wondering if they will be able to put things in the past, for after all… they did both build their careers to over 10 million subscribers, the world has seemed to have forgotten about Logan’s past, and they did make a pretty penny from this.
You be the judge! Do you think this was all for money and publicity or was the feud genuine?Let us know in the comments below or text us to discuss live on air at 833-650-4387.
